Google continues to progress in customizing the lock screen experience in the latest Android 13 QPR2 beta release. 9to5Google has found that Pixel phones are getting closer to having customizable lock screen shortcuts and a custom clock design. In the previous Android 13 QPR2 update, we saw signs that Google was working on customizing the two shortcuts that appear on the lock screen, which is now fully functioning on the Android 13 beta for Nothing Phone (1).
In Android 13 QPR2 Beta 3, Pixel phones have almost identical lock screen shortcuts to the ones seen on the Nothing Phone (1), including the same animation for long-pressing the button. This feature is expected to be part of the "Wallpaper & style" settings redesign, with tabs for switching between home screen and lock screen settings. The lock screen customization tab also reveals an option for "Custom clock," but currently, there are no clock face options available.
Google has been working on bringing a custom clock feature to Pixel phones since 2019, but it hasn't come to fruition yet. Some early lock screen clock designs were later used as watchfaces for the Pixel Watch. It remains unclear whether Google will introduce these lock screen customizations in the full release of Android 13 QPR2 in March or at a later date.
