Windows 11 Adoption Picks Up Among Corporations as Pilot Programs Launch

As Microsoft's latest operating system continues to lag in popularity compared to its predecessor, large corporations are starting to test Windows 11 in greater numbers.

According to web analytics service Statcounter, Windows 11 was running on 16.93% of global PCs in December, compared to 16.12% and 15.44% in the previous two months. Meanwhile, the desktop version of Windows 10 remained on 68.01% of PCs.

Steve Kleynhans, research vice president at market researcher Gartner, predicts that many enterprises will quickly adopt Windows 11 following the release of the 22H2 update and the end of the year. Many organizations are currently running pilot programs and plan to transition new purchases to Windows 11 in the coming months.

However, upgrades of existing systems are expected to take longer, with end of life for Windows 10 not occurring until 2024. While Microsoft will continue to support at least one Windows 10 release until 2025, customers can also pay for custom support to receive updates.
