L'Oréal Launches Makeup Devices for People with Limited Mobility

L'Oréal has announced the release of two makeup devices at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year. The first, HAPTA, is a motorized lipstick applicator designed specifically for people with limited hand and arm mobility. The device, which will be piloted by L'Oréal's Lancôme brand this year, is based on technology from Alphabet-owned Verily that helps level utensils and keep them stable for independent use.

HAPTA features smart motion controls and customizable attachments that allow for precise application with 360 degrees of rotation and 180 degrees of flexion. The attachments are connected magnetically and users can expect around an hour of use on a single charge, which is sufficient for 10 or more applications. HAPTA is also designed to make it easier for users to open packaging.

In addition to HAPTA, L'Oréal has also unveiled L'Oréal Brow Magic, a handheld device that helps users achieve a personalized eyebrow look based on their facial features and natural brow shape. The device, which was developed in collaboration with Prinker, a company that offers printed, temporary tattoos, has 2,400 small nozzles and a printing resolution of up to 1,200 drops per inch.

It uses L'Oréal's Modiface AR technology, allowing users to scan their face using an app and choose their desired shape, thickness, and effect, with microblading, micro-shading, and filler recommendations available. After applying a primer, users simply sweep the device across their eyebrow in a single motion and add a topcoat. L'Oréal Brow Magic is expected to be available later this year.
