Google Pixel owners have experienced Bluetooth and Android Auto issues after the January 2023 update. Multiple online reports from Pixel users indicate that there are problems with connecting to Bluetooth in cars following the January 2023 security patch.
One Reddit thread in particular showed that some users encountered the error message "Problem connecting. Turn device off and back on" when trying to connect to their car's Bluetooth.
It is unclear at this time what the cause is, but the timing suggests that it may be related to the January 2023 security update on Pixel phones, as many users report that their Bluetooth was functioning properly before the update. Attempts at troubleshooting, such as resetting the car's system, re-pairing Bluetooth, and resetting network settings, have not yet resolved the issue.
The problem appears to be affecting a wide range of car brands, including Nissan, Toyota, Kia, Honda, Subaru, Volvo, and others, and is not limited to specific Pixel models, though the Pixel 6 series and Pixel 7 series have been mentioned most frequently.
In addition to the general connectivity issues, some users have also reported problems with Android Auto following the January update on Pixels. While it is not clear if these issues are directly connected to the Bluetooth problems, one user did report success in resolving the issue by wiping the data/cache from the Play Services and Android Auto apps. If you have experienced issues with Bluetooth or Android Auto after the January 2023 update on your Pixel phone, please let us know.
